Banquet Information

When:  SATURDAY, July 18, 2020, 7:00 p.m. 

Where:  Stars at Night Ballroom - Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, San Antonio, TX

Tickets: Tickets are now available. Tickets are $55 per seat or $400 for a table of 8 seats. Click the button above to download the ticket order form now. Seating is limited and tickets will not be sold at the door. 

Seating:  Each honoree will have a limited number of “reserved tables” but there will be plenty of seating for everyone.

Dress:  The banquet is a very honorable event.  Most men will wear a coat/tie but casual pants and dress shirt is fine too.  If in doubt, wear your “Sunday best”.

**Rules of Entrance into the THSCA Hall of Honor**

1. Anyone considered for the Hall of Honor shall have been an active member of the Texas High School Coaches Association in the following brackets:

            ¨ 1930-35 - Must have been a member for any one year;

            ¨ 1935-45 - Must have been a member for any five years;

            ¨ 1945-date - Must have been a member for a minimum of 15 years.

2. Should have contributed to the Association.

3. Should have contributed to the coaching profession.

4. Any active/allied member may submit a coach for consideration by sending a letter to the THSCA. Once an individual is nominated, his name will remain on file with the Nominating Committee for consideration. The Nominating Committee meets each January, so all letters should be sent to the THSCA office by December 1.

Academic All-State

The Texas Army National Guard and the Texas High School Coaches Association would like to congratulate all Academic All-State award recipientsWe understand that students’ performance in the classroom can sometimes be difficult to manage while participating in athletics, but their hard work has not gone unnoticed. The THSCA Academic All-State Teams recognize high school athletes who excel in the following categories: GPA, class rank and ACT/SAT score. The students below are being recognized as a team member based on their scores in these categories. We applaud them for their commitment and dedication to perform with the highest of excellence academically and on the field or court.

Curly Hays Award

Since 1988, the "Curly Hays Award" is given annually to a retired game official that has contributed twenty or more years of services to officiating, athletics and athletes in the state of Texas. Each THSCA region nominates an official at their February Regional Meeting and the award recipient is chosen from the 8 nominees at the March THSCA Board of Directors meeting. That official is recognized at the annual THSCA Hall of Honor Banquet in July. 

Distinguished Service Award

Created in 1960, the THSCA Distinguished Service Award is given annually in recognition of outstanding achievement to a person or organization that has excelled in their efforts to assist the THSCA and the coaching profession. The recipient(s) are recognized at the annual THSCA Hall of Honor Banquet in July. 

Putt Powell Sports Writer of the Year Award

After a meeting with the Texas Sports Writers Association members, it was decided that the THSCA would annually recognize a sportswriter for their work in sports coverage for the state of Texas. Each THSCA region nominates a sports writer at their February Regional Meeting and the award recipient is chosen from the 8 nominees at the March THSCA Board of Directors meeting. That sports writer is recognized at the annual THSCA Hall of Honor Banquet in July. 

Tom Landry Award

The Tom Landry Award is presented annually at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame Banquet in May in Waco, TX. Selected by the THSCA Board of Directors, the Tom Landry Award recipient must be a member in good standing of THSCA and should have made significant contribution to the athletes and the game of football in our state. The candidate should have served as a positive role-model for both athletes and coaches alike. 

Athletic Trainer of the Year

Given in recognition of outstanding services, each THSCA region nominates a trainer at their February Regional Meeting and the award recipient is chosen from the 8 nominees at the March THSCA Board of Directors meeting. Since 1996, the winner of the trainer of the year award has recognized at the annual THSCA General Meeting at Coaching School in July. 

THSCA Scholarships

The THSCA annually awards 10 - $2,000 scholarships as well as 1 - $2,500 "Eddie Joseph Memorial" scholarship to  graduating seniors that are the son/daughter of a member in good standing of the THSCA. Applications are collected annually and chosen by a selection committee. The Scholarship Application must be postmarked by February 14, 2020.
