What is the Iron Sharpens Iron Project?
NEWS RELEASE 8/28/2025: (KRGV News) Rio Hondo ISD Gifted $250,000 Weight Room for Student-Athletes
In 2022, the Texas High School Coaches Education Foundation announced a partnership with Fin Ewing and the “Iron Sharpens Iron” weightroom project. Fin Ewing is a longtime friend and advocate for high school athletics and coaches. Ewing approached THSCA in the Fall of 2021, wanting to make a donation that would have a direct impact on kids, coaches, school districts, and communities. He decided that donating a weightroom to a school that enjoys success on and off the field due to the influence of the coaches who serve as role models, mentors, and prioritize character development, would have the greatest impact.
Mr. Ewing has committed to an annual donation to provide a weightroom annually to a school that can be used for all programs, both boys and girls, and know that his donation will have a long-lasting mark.
This project was funded by Fin Ewing, powered by THSCEF, and built by the following equipment partners:
- Advanced Exercise – Vaughn Marxhausen (Custom bumpers & plates; 3D render & fly-through)
- Hammer Strength/Life Fitness – Mike Zinda (Weight equipment)
- Plus More Fitness – Waylon Cobb (Equipment delivery & installation)
- Prince Consulting – Blair Prince & Jenna Addison (Project design & management)
- RFS Sports Surfaces & Lockers – David Smith & Oscar Riojas (Sport surface design, demo & installation)
- Texas Power Bars – Buddy Capps & Mitch Stacy
- TRX Training – Tim Bourke
- Water Boy Graphics – Ty Gipson
