Seat at the Table

Nationwide, female coaches account for only 25% of youth sports coaches, a trend reflected in Texas secondary schools. THSCA recognizes the unique challenges female coaches face and developed the Seat at the Table program to support their retention in the coaching profession. “Seat at the Table” is a first-of-its-kind gathering designed specifically for women in the coaching profession, offering attendees the chance to connect with other coaches, share personal experiences, and participate in thought-provoking discussions around leadership, coaching, and career development. With topics ranging from work-life balance to developing a positive culture in athletic programs, the event promises to equip female coaches with tangible strategies for success.

The THSCA hosts several “Seat at the Table” events each year, for the purpose of empowering our female coaches. Aimed at elevating the presence, influence, and impact of female coaches on each campus, this event is an invitation-only event, that provides a platform for female coaches to network, exchange ideas, and engage in structured discussions about the coaching profession.

Joe Martin, Executive Director for THSCA, underscored the critical role this event plays in building a more inclusive future for sports leadership, stating, “We are losing quality teachers and coaches at an alarming rate, and female coaches are often pulled away from the profession at a higher rate than their male counterparts. But this program is not just about retention—it’s about lifting up female voices and creating lasting change within the coaching profession. Our female coaches bring unique perspectives and strengths to the field, and ‘Seat at the Table’ is designed to ensure they have the support, tools, and networks necessary to excel and lead their teams to success.”
