UIL CCP AT COACHING SCHOOL - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

1. What is the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Coaches Certification Program (CCP)?

The formerly called RCP (Rules Compliance Program) consists of both UIL and state law requirements. The UIL has required coaches to complete the prescribed components of RCP on a yearly basis. Beginning in 2018 the RCP became the Coaches Certification Program (CCP).  The change will recognize coaches as UIL Certified.  Additionally this program now includes a “Fundamentals of Coaching” course for all first year Texas coaches and also requires ALL football coaches to take and pass a Mandatory Tackling Certification course once every two years. The THSCA will be offering lectures at coaching school each year that will help coaches to satisfy their CCP requirements.

2. How do I receive credit for CCP Courses I complete at Coaching School?

In order to receive credit for these courses, coaches must FIRST create an account for themselves in the UIL - Register My Athlete (RMA) portal AND THEN they will need to add their THSCA member number to their profile. (See instructions below on how to add your THSCA member number to your profile.)

All lectures at Coaching School will have THSCA staff on hand scanning attendees’ convention badges for verification of completion. The THSCA will be responsible for communicating the verification of completion list directly to the UIL. The UIL will then use the THSCA member number you have added to your profile to verify course completion and update your UIL portal profile in RMA.

1.     Go to the UIL Register My Athlete Website and login: uil.registersmyathlete.com

Note: If you have not already created a profile for yourself in the RMA System you will need to click the "Create Account" button and do so.

2.  Once you have logged in or created your account, continue on by clicking "Go To Portal".
**If you are logged in, you can return to the main portal page at any time by clicking the UIL logo in the top left corner of the page.

3.    Once on the Main Portal Page, Look for the box on the right labeled "Connected Associations" click on the  "Manage" Tab.

4. Then click the “Add Association” button.

5.  Choose "THSCA" from the dropdown menu, enter your assigned permanent THSCA member number and hit "Save."

3. What CCP Courses do I need to be in compliance with the UIL's new program?

If this is your FIRST YEAR COACHING IN THE STATE OF TEXAS you must complete:

  • Two hours of Concussion Training – Course #107 and #107-B
(HB 2038 mandates that coaches must receive two hours of Concussion Training every two years. Once a coach has fulfilled his two hours initially, if he takes one hour each year he will always be current. Coaches may also fulfill these requirements online through www.thsca.com.)

  • Steroid Training – Course #102

  • Constitution and Contest Rules – Course  #103

  • Ethics and Sportsmanship – Course #105

  • Safety Training – Course #106

  • Fundamentals of Coaching in Texas – Course #101

  • Rules Updates on each sport you coach – All Course #’s in 200s (ie #203, #204, etc.)

  • If you are a football coach, you will also need the Mandatory Tackling Certification by Atavus – Course #204-B

If you are a VETERAN COACH in Texas you must complete:

  • Two hours of Concussion Training – Course #107 and #107-B
(HB 2038 mandates that coaches must receive two hours of Concussion Training every two years. If a coach has previously fulfilled his two hours, we recommend he take one hour each year and then he will always remain current. Coaches may also fulfill these requirements online through the THSCA website.)

  • Steroid Training – Course #102

  • Constitution and Contest Rules – Course  #103

  • Ethics and Sportsmanship – Course #105

  • Safety Training – Course #106

  • Rules Updates on each sport you coach – All Course #’s in 200s (ie #203, #204, etc.)

  • If you are a football coach, you will also need the Mandatory Tackling Certification by Atavus – Course #204-B

  • If you are representing your district on the District Executive Committee you must also be certified in DEC Training (Course #104).

4. What CCP Courses can I get credit for at Coaching School?

The THSCA will offer CCP course options every year at Coaching School including Tackle Certification.

5. If I would like to attend a lecture that is "Ticket Required" what do I need to do?

When you arrive at the Convention Center for Coaching School, proceed to the registration area. If you have pre-registered you will first need to pick-up your registration packet. If you have not pre-registered you will need to complete on-site registration first! Once you have your convention badge proceed to the Mandatory Education Ticket Distribution Counters in the Exhibit Hall to collect a ticket for each lecture you plan to attend. The only CCP courses that will require a ticket for 2019 are the Tackling Certification and the Fundamentals of Coaching. There is limited seating for each lecture so once we have distributed all the tickets for a particular lecture it will be closed and you will need to select another alternate time to attend if available. You will be asked to present your ticket upon arrival at that lecture, and you MUST present your ticket and have your convention badge on to enter. If you forget or lose your ticket you will not be admitted. THSCA staff will be scanning all attendees convention badges as they enter the lecture so communicate that list of attendees to the UIL for credit.

6. What are my opportunities to compete the Mandatory Tackling Certification if I cannot complete it at Coaching School?

THSCA will offer several options for Tackling Certification at Coaching School. We will add additional sessions as needed to accommodate everyone that still needs to get certified onsite.Tackling Certification is also available online for free through Atavus from April 1, 2019 through July 1, 2019, at www.atavus.com/texas. Online tackle training through Atavus beginning Aug. 2, 2019 will be $35 per coach. All coaches must be certified by August 2019. The next re-certification date will be August 2021.

7. What are my opportunities to get all of the CCP courses aside from Tackling if I cannot come to Coaching School?

All CCP courses aside from the tackle training should be available online through the UIL Portal in Register My Athlete. If you need Concussion Training, that too is available online for FREE at www.thsca.com under the “Resources” tab.

8. What if I am already in compliance on my Concussion Training hours, but it does not reflect that in the UIL Portal?

The protocol for the proof of Concussion Training will remain the same as it has in the past. If you complete the course online or in some manner outside what is offered by the THSCA at in-person training, your district will just need to have that certificate on file somewhere. As long as your certificate of completion for both hours of mandated Concussion Training can be produced you are in compliance with the UIL CCP requirements, even if that is not reflected though the UIL Portal.

9. Can I get tickets for other coaches?

No, you may only pick up one ticket for each session you would like to attend and you will have to show your convention badge for proof of registration before you are given a ticket.

10. Can I get a ticket on Monday or Tuesday?

As long as we still have seats available.

11. Do I take a test in all courses?

No, if you complete your CCP courses at coaching school, the only one that requires a test is the tackling certification.

12. Will I be able to get credit if I get there late?

We will be closing the doors as soon as the lecture begins and no one else will be admitted.

14. I still have tackling certification questions... where can I go?
CLICK HERE for the Tackling FAQs

15. Can I complete ALL of my required CCP courses at coaching school?

Yes. However, all sessions will have limited seating so we suggest you arrive early. Both Tackle Training and Fundamentals will require a ticket for entry, and those may be picked-up in the Exhibit Hall after you have checked in in registration and received your convention badge. All other CCP courses that do not require a ticket will be closed once we reach capacity seating.
